How we met. . .
It was after my exams. I was euphoric and looking forward to my the holidays ahead. After waiting for over thirty (30) minutes for a cab with no luck, a car halted in front of me and the driver motioned for me to get in.
I hesitated initially because I wasn’t in the habit of entering lifts, but succumbed after I spotted a stethoscope somewhere in the front seat of his car. “He’s a senior colleague.” I said to myself. “He’s safe ”.
During the ride, we talked about basically everything! medical school, my just concluded exams, music (and then he was also a singer with an album) Being the music lover I am, I was like “Oh my gosh!!”. We talked about family ,church , life as a young doctor …. I was so relaxed with him, we just kept talking and I felt like I’d known him all my life. You know that instant connection that you just cannot explain.
So I got to my destination which wasn’t far from my home and he’s like “Can I have your number, please?.. If you don’t mind.” ‘Mind? I chuckled to myself’! Abegi collect number jare. I for even add address join nii *LOL*). We exchanged numbers and he called to ensure I had arrived home safely. We met a few weeks later for lunch and still had “that connection” which laid the foundation for our friendship and progressed to a loving relationship.
I would call it “Serendipity” because I had found love where I wasn’t looking.
The proposal
Obee sprung a surprise visit from California in December of 2015. On Christmas, he took me to a karaoke bar in Port Harcourt. We ordered for food and requested songs. I actually picked the songs for him. I noticed he was talking to the owner of the bar at some point, but gave little thought to that and instead, focused on my food.
When it was our turn to sing I sang “Don’t stop the music by Rihanna”. Obee, however, stalled; claiming to be waiting for some friends. Ok oh! Which one con-sign me? I was still enjoying my chicken and chips jejely. His friends arrived in a bit, and he sang “No one else comes close”. Did I mention earlier that bae’s is a Project-fame-winner-who-hasn’t-yet-won-cus-he’s-busy-practising-medicine?
See me smiling and shaking giraffe neck as he was singing naa! Blush wan kee me!! People and his friends inclusive kept taking pictures and recording, but I didn’t suspect zilch. They always take pictures-and record when he sings so…. I was still doing close-up toothpaste advert when I heard:
“Anita, today makes it five (5) years and six days since I started dating you and to be honest, I’m tired of dating you and I can’t continue this; So, simply, will you marry me?”
Hey God!! So bae brought me to “the public of Igwemmadu” to reveal my “shame-shy” potentials! Chaiyyiiiii! I couldn’t even look up. I kept covering my face.
“Say yes!Say yes!!” The crowd kept cheering. “I can’t hear you” Obee reiterated to rub it in. “YES!I’ll marry you” I said, with my ‘shaky-shaky’ voice. looool. I was sooooooo shy.
Looked around for his friends and I’m like “Kai!, these guys got me for real!” To think I even gave one of them my phone for the recording and picture session, oblivious of their intentions.
“Eees eet good?”

Chief Bridesmaid
Anita and I met in medical school and got closer during our internship. I call her "beautiful Anita, the model". She is not just a lady with physical beautiful. But she has an awesome character and soul: strong, cheerful, kind, smart, calculated, out spoken, resourceful.... the list goes on. My wish and prayer for you two is;
May this phase of your lives will continually increase in all the great qualities it needs. You will not need to paint your home because it will be fashioned after God's standard and designed after man's dream of a perfect home. You both will be a Proverbs 31 man (vs 2-9) and woman (vs 10 - 31) to each other.
